Met with the recipient the other day. He still had troubles tapping the screen…tried to push buttons. I suggested he “bounce” his finger or stylus off the screen. We’ll see how that goes.

The iPhone recipient wanted to see if he had voice mail. He asked a friend to call, he told me, but all he got was a “missed call” message. Thinking he needed to set up voice mail, I tried to get him set up to record a custom. I used Face Time to show him how to do that using a second iPhone, but that was too many steps. We tried for 45 minutes without success. Some of that was because he kept pushing on the phone app icon, which brought up that unwanted menu. Using a pen with a stylus tip helped. Finally, I said “just keep the default greeting.” I then told him I’d call but not to answer. After four rings, I got the default voice mail message. The initial problem resulted because his friend hung up before the iPhone went to voice mail.

I’m not sure he knows how to listen to voice mail.

Smartphones are really quite dumb.
